Nwawasua, March 3, 2015 -DISASTER NEARLY struck
a female trained teacher at the Nwawasua M/A School, near Sunyani in the
Brong-Ahafo Region last Tuesday, February 24, after a fallen wooden blackboard
fell on her.
Doris Prempew, the KG2 teacher, was later after the incident sent to a hospital
in Sunyani for treatment due to the injury she sustained in the head.
She confirmed to DAILY
GUIDE that she was writing on the plywood backboard which was hanging
on a piece of wood and all of a sudden heard a bang on her head and landed her
on the floor.
The KG department of the
school is located in an open wooden pavilion with no claddings. The floor is
also not cemented with just about 10 dual desks for the about 40 children to
share.
When asked whether she
would apply for a transfer as a result of the incident, the dedicated teacher
who, though, treks from Sunyani every day to the village, answered in the
negative.
“I feel for these little
children and I don’t want to abandon them due to what has happened to me
because they need serious help,” she said.
The teacher disclosed
that the school compound has been used as a footway and road for farmers and
vehicles as well as stray animals, a situation which detracts the attention of
the children during learning since the classroom has not been cladded.
The headmaster of the
school, Japon Joseph Nnob, expressed regret about the incident, saying that the
KG structure needs urgent attention.
Mr. Nnob mentioned that
he has written several letters to the various institutions for support. He
seized the opportunity to appeal to corporate organisations and philanthropists
to come to the aid of the school to build a befitting structure for the KG.
